‚Austria Reads. Meeting-point Library’ - Austria’s largest literary festival
‚Austria reads. Meeting Point Library’ is the largest campaign creating publicity for reading and public libraries. It aims at heightening the profile of reading and public libraries across all segments of society.
With close to half a million visitors attending the campaigns of the last three years have been highly successful. This year the renowned festival will take place from October 19th to Ocober 25th, 2009.
Thousands of exciting events
During this week Austrian libraries will draw attention to the pleasures of reading by hosting a number of exciting events such as public readings, literary hikes, book exhibitions and a lot of other cultural activities. A wide range of libraries such as city- municipal- and community-libraries, parochial libraries, school- and university-ibraries, as well as the National Library will join forces to surpass even last year’s success. The list of writers who will perform readings in the libraries across Austria is impressive.
Reading need role models – Celebrity press inserts
Press inserts in popular Austrian newspapers and other media are an important part of the publicity campaign. Both national and international celebrities have agreed to appear in those press inserts and thereby act as role models for reading.
The campaign is coordinated by the the Austrian Library Association and is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture and other regional governmental organisations as well as commercial sponsoring.
